I've been a painter now for 6 years. I've researched and educated myself on the best paint finishes for cabinets and furniture. I understand there are many DIYers out there who may want to tackle their own cabinets and other projects. I"m one of those DIYers too!! But please, do a little research before tackling certain projects.
Its so important to choose the right product for your job. Latex paint is great for walls. Its inexpensive so can be changed often if you like. Latex paint is NOT made to be cabinet paint though. Latex does not dry completely hard. It will always be a little stretchy, and you don't want that on cabinets. I don't even suggest using latex on furniture. It certainly doesn't sand well and again will always be a little sticky. In my opinion, latex should only be used on walls.
That brings me to cabinet painting. Your kitchen is a major part of your home. It is the hub and can be quite expensive when updating. If you're one who wants to tackle your own cabinets please don't believe someone who tells you that you don't need to sand
, clean, or prime before painting and PLEASE don't use latex paint! All that money you saved on doing the job yourself will be spent on having it fixed by a professional!
