Have you ever wondered how durable your paint really is? The short answer is it depends on the type of prep and the type of paint! But, there is more to it than that

Keep it clean

Dirt, oils, grease, and other cleaners can literally ruin a paint finish over time. the best way to clean your cabinets is with plain water, or water and a little Dawn dish soap and a microfiber cloth. Do this regularly to keep contaminants off. Pay special attention to the areas that are used the most. Over time, if you don't keep these areas clean you will notice the paint finish wearing away or chipping. Oils from your hands just sit there and slowly eat away at it. Wipe these doors and the ones by your stove almost daily to keep grease and oils from ruining your beautiful finish.

Putting dishes away!

There is no paint or wood finish that is indestructible. However, being mindful of a few things will help it last for many years. Don't be sloppy when putting dishes away! The edges of the cabinets are a popular area for heavy plates to hit against when putting them away. Slow down, and pick up the plates instead of just sliding them across this edge.

Add Hardware

Adding hardware is another great way to save your beautiful finish. I've been in a handful of kitchens over the years that actually had no handles or knobs. My best advice is to please add them. Hardware is so fun too! It gives you a chance to be a little creative. If you wonder where to get the best knobs and handles, see my previous blog here!
